Arrived at the “resort” around 9am, first dive at 11am. This destination, like many on Mabul Island, is a bit sparse. Around 12 rooms, two beds in each, community toilets and showers. Electricity is on from 6pm to 6am. Malaysian cooks, good food. People come and go all day long, the small dive boats also come and go with 2-6 people on board. Most are open water certified like Gloria and me, others are getting their certification, others, more advanced courses. All the instructors are from the U.K.
Three dives today. Each got better. Too buoyant on the first dive, not enough lead on my weight belt. I ended up picking up a big rock and finished the dive cradling it in one arm while taking pictures with my other hand. Final dive was the best. Clearest water, nice current, we just let it carry us along. Nice soft corals, fish, and turtles.
New camera. Actually an older camera, but a new underwater housing. Thought it would be an upgrade from our old-old camera and old housing. Working out the kinks with the settings and the flash, a little disappointing so far.
Probably around 15-20 of us here. Most in their twenties, a few older, none as old as us? They are from England, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Australia. Most are on a several month holiday from work or school. Some are working as teachers in Asia and taking time off between semesters.
